This tutorial is going to teach you how to draw the Japanese Snow Monkey or the Japanese Macaque. These are very interesting and beautiful animals that are found in Japan. If you don’t know exactly what makes these monkeys so unique I will tell you. For starters, they are the only monkeys to live in such extreme cold weather living 41- 31 degrees north of the equator that would make them the only monkey living that far to the north in the entire world. Living on hills throughout the forests, in the highlands and mountains, can always enjoy soaking in a hot spring that is usually not to far from where they live during the intense weather of the winter season. The majority of snow monkeys in existence can be found on the southern island of Yaku Shima, the reason being is that this island contains more subtropical plants and a heavily leaved evergreen forest which make this particular location ideal for the macaque. These monkeys have a face much like a human, it is bare, reddish in color, and their eyes are very expressive. Their tails are stubby and short, the coats are heavy, dense, and furry to keep the chill off and the colors ranger from brown to grey or even a mix between the two. The interesting part is that when the summer months come thy will shed off half the fur so their coats will be much lighter. This species are medium sized hefty animals that range around 2-4 feet long and weigh roughly between 25-70 pounds. They also move around on all fours unless they are having something in their hands, and half a thumb that is fully opposable. Instead of tribes, they live in troops of 20-30 at a time and is led by a dominate male. Their diets consist of fruits, bark, seeds, different types of flowers and leaves, and on occasion crabs and bird eggs. They gather most of their food on the ground and at times sits up in trees to feed on the leaves and bark. The Japanese snow monkey has been a part of Japanese history and art for centuries. Japanese people are very fond of their monkeys and will continue to make sure that they will never have the threat of extinction knocking on their door. Like I said at the beginning of this introduction, I will show you in detail how to draw one of these fascinating Japanese snow monkeys. The instructions have step by step sketching details. I enjoyed drawing my own sketch of this animal, and I know you will too.
