Chipmunks are those little black, white and tan looking animals that always seem to elude you when you get to close. They hide in tree holes and barrows that they dig up in the ground. Chipmunks have black and white stripes on there fuzzy coats of fur, and are a part if the squirrel family. These little animals live around tress and bushes, infact if you have tress or a couple of bushes in your back yard then you have chipmunks for neighbors. These backyard pets are pleasant and fun animals with a lot of character and serve a greater purpose then most people think. What purpose do they serve you ask? They make you smile when you see them run across you or when you see them playing in your back yard, and I don’t know about you but most people I know have such dry personalities that I mainly laugh at myself let alone someone making me laugh. So I figure if a little old chipmunk can put a smile on my face, then he just served a purpose in my book. These fuzzy little friends are mainly spread throughout the United States and Canada. Even though chipmunks like squirrels are expert climbers they spend most of their time on the ground near their little homes in the ground so they have easy access to evade any form of threat. They even make noise too, it’s a high pitched whistle that chips to lower chuck sounds, hence the name chipmunks. These animals weigh a whopping 2-4 ounces and are huge 10 inches long. Let’s see, what else can I tell you before you learn how to draw the chipmunk? Umm oh yeah they eat seeds, berries, acorns, and of course other nuts, they start there breeding process in early spring and then again in early summer, boy they really do get busy don’t they. I think that pretty much sums it up, now it’s up to you to follow the easy to read instructions. There is only 4 simple steps to start you on your way, who knows maybe this will help you how to draw Alvin and the chipmunks as well.

How to Draw a Chipmunk

how to draw a chipmunk step 1

STEP 1.

Now like I say with all these step lets start off with drawing your guidelines to help make the whole drawing process easier. Start at the head and work your way down. This ensures that your sketch will come out portioned and defined. Draw a circle for the head with a smaller circle for the nose. Then draw a bigger circle on the side of the head circle for the body. Then again two more much smaller circles for the front arm and the hind leg. From those shapes, draw the lining around the entire body with a scribble line for the tail.

STEP 2.

Now what you are going to do here is detail the outlines of the chipmunk with some fuzzy sketching. Detail the front foot and tail. Next what you want to do is draw the acorn shaped eye and the lining inside the ear. Sketch out the tiny nose and all the whiskers. When you draw the feet, make sure you show by description on how shape and pointy the nails are. After you detail this step go to the next step.

STEP 3.

This is the step where I tell you to detail and define before moving to the finished sketch. Always start at the top and work your way down. So having said that start sketching the markings on the chipmunk along the sides of the body and along the side of the eye. Fluff up the fur as well. Before moving to the next step make sure you give your sketch a brief look through to fix any errors. Then erase the guidelines and proceed on.

STEP 4.

There you go your very own chipmunk. Now just color him in. Oh before I go Did you know? Although chipmunks hibernate, they do not store fat. Instead they slowly gnaw away at their summer bounty throughout the winter. Just something I thought you would fin interesting.
