How To Draw a Pitbull

The American Pitbull is probably one of most popular dogs owned in the United States as well as being one of the worst talked about dogs. Pitbulls are ancestors of the English bulldogs and terriers. Bulldogs were originally bred for bull baiting and vermin hunting. They were dogs that farmers used to bring in the bulls for breeding, slaughter or castration, and also to hunt down and kill vermin to prevent crops from being ruined by badgers or rats. After the parliament recognized what they were using these dogs for it was then passed as being a form of animal cruelty and banned bull baiting completely. After that died out, dog fighting was introduced which rapidly became a very popular sport. There was one problem; Bulldogs had absolutely no interest in dog fighting they were limp and oblivious to what was required from them to do. It was then decided to cross Bulldogs with the English black, white, and tan terriers and make sure that they were also bred with intelligence to stay focused during fights and yet docile toward their owners. These breed of dogs were known as the Staffordshire Bull Terriers. When the 1800’s rolled around, immigration to the United States became a common thing, and folks from Ireland and England brought an abundant amount of this particular breed along with them, mainly to Boston. Once being settled in their new country more breeding took place which made them larger, and stocker the outcome of this cross breeding process was the American Pitbull Terrier. When you go threw the tutorial and learn "how to draw a Pitbull", you will find that these dogs are beautiful. The shape of their body has a true masculine quality; you can actually see why this animal was used for fighting. They have a brick like head, with a thick strong neck, and a bold massive chest. Even though they are short and stocky, Pitbulls are extremely strong and agile for their size. This tutorial has easy to learn steps and instructions that will show you in detail how to draw a Pitbull. So get out your sketch book and a good pencil and give this dog some love.

how to draw an american pitbull terrier step 1

STEP 1.

Lets start this step with some basic guidelines for the frame of the pitbull. Draw a big bold circle at the top for the dogs head. Then draw two straight lines for the pitbulls neck. From those lines draw another larger circle for the broad chest, behind that big circle draw the smallest of all the circle shapes for the butt end of the pitbull. Before you move to the next step sketch in some nubs at the ends of the shapes to prepare the frame for the next step.

STEP 2.

Now in this step you will be sketching and drawing the rest of the frame work on the pitbull. Starting at the head sketch in light face lines in the shape of a plus sign to help you draw a symmetrical face. Then from that sketch the shaping of the snout which kinda resembles a human nose at this point. Sketch in the jaw shape and the pointed clipped ears. Now move down to the legs and draw three almond shapes for the pitbulls masculine thighs. Under those shapes draw two circles on the front legs for the shins, and three paws, two for the front and one for the back.

STEP 3.

Step 3 is all detail based. What you will be doing here is sketching in the definition to the pitbulls face. What you want to do is give him character with his handsome looks. Sketch in the eyes evenly with the guidelines that go across his face. Then sketch in the nose, jowls, and details inside the ears. Also sketch in the bone structure on the face with just some simple lining strokes. Move down south and sketch in the outsides of the legs as shown and draw the lining for the back leg. Sketch in the toes on the paws and muscle definition along the body.

STEP 4.

In this step it is real short and simple. What you will be doing here is sketching in the markings along the chest, paws and face. You could also create your own markings if you prefer. This happens to be an image of my dog Brody, and these are the markings for him. Before you move to the next step sketch in some lining for the ribs. If you cant see a hint of ribs on dogs or any animals this means they are over weight. After you have finished with the last of the detailing go back and erase all the guidelines and sketching marks.

STEP 5.

Here, you'll have to finish off the legs and the paws. You need to give some paws to the Pitbull or he'll be standing on nubs. Make sure you finish the hindleg as well. Ready for your finished lineart?

I have two pit bulls myself and they're both sweet as can be. The female, Princess, will lick you to death. She actually used to go in and out of nursing homes so she's really sweet. Boss, the male, is still a puppy so he's all over the place. Princess is really protective of him and it's so sweet watching them together. The second female, Shadow, pspeechlessed away about a month ago and she was amazing. I decided to do this picture as a memorial for my dad for her. So far so good. lol

inlove I love pitbulls, although they are banned here. inlove I own a german shepherd, rottweiler cross, and she is really daft and friendly toward everyone. Misunderstood dogs are not aggressive. It is in fact the owners who train them naughty behavior! T_T

Pitbulls themselves arnt dangerous. They're bred and trained for dog fights most of the time and this is why people know them for theire violent nature.vMy dog (who is not a pitbull but a cousin breed) is sweet as can be. when playing with smaller dogs she knows to go gentle and only goes rough with dogs wholl go rough back

In britian, There was an american staffie on the news. It was bigger than it should be and it was scary (i know because the pic was on british news) The dog killed a 14 yrs old yorkshire terrier, who was very weak. Then a few mounths later, It went up to a kid and pit him on the head, privates and the hand. He got put in hospital for 2 weeks and he had to get a stich everywere he got bitten and bandage over his hand. Then the next day the police found it on the street with a man and them the police shot it, as it was to dangerous. Then they banned this breed in britian. Im glad cuz im not comfortable round these dogs. They are danerous. It just got mad! But anyway i love the tut. Keep up the good work fear

I have had a pit bull since I was five and now I'm 13 and he has never bitten anyone. He is basically a huge teddy bear. Don't ban pitbulls, ban bad owners! In fact my grandmother's chihuahuas boss him around and he listens. He's a good dog who was well trained.
