How To Draw Spiky Hair

STEP 1.

I don't think I have to tell you that you must start with the basic form of a head. I mean, how else would you properly draw hair? =D

STEP 2.

Star by drawing a curved triangle by the right ear for a piece of hair. Then use a few quick strokes to draw the beginning of the bangs on the upper left hand side. You can make these as long or as short as you would like. For drawing purposes, I'm using a normal length.

STEP 3.

Just like how you made the bangs on the right side, use the same triangular strokes to complete the bangs across the forehead. be sure to connect the piece of hair by the right ear and the top of the bangs completely. While you're doing this, make sure that the bangs curve downward just a bit so they connect and look proper.

STEP 4.

Okay, now for the top of the head. Using the blue circle as a guideline for the drown of the head, make the sam strokes you used earlier, except point them upwards. Don't make the hair pin straight, or it will look fake and prickly. What you want is spikes, so you have to make them a bit bent and curved. Start at the left side with the bangs and end on the right ear.

STEP 5.

Erase the guidelines from the basic head and you're almost done. Make two zig-zag lines across the crown of the head and one pair on the bangs for the shadowing when you color it. to show the texture of the hair, you should make a few straight or curved lines throughout the hair. then it's on to coloring.

STEP 6.

I used brown in this case so you can see the lines in the hair and how it looks when you are finally done. As I always say: don't forget to color in the light lines with a shade lighter than the color of the hair itself. When you're satisfied with the hair color, you're finally done!
