How To Draw Bangs with a Ponytail

STEP 1.

First of all, you need a head to draw hair on! Start with a basic anime head: a circle, with a chin and neck lines. And don't forget to draw in the guidelines (as shown in red) so you can average where the center is.

STEP 2.

Now that you have the head, draw a small ear on the right side using the guidelines for the eyes. In the upper right corner, draw an oval. This is where the ponytail will be drawn later. Depending on how long you want the bangs to be, make a few quick and light semi-curved lines by the ear and on the upper left side of the forehead. In this picture, I started the bangs at a normal length.

STEP 3.

Now complete the bangs by connecting the two sides on the bottom with a couple triangular strokes of hair. Across the top, where the middle red guideline meets the head, make a little indent to show where the part is and then connect the hair on the top to the circle for the ponytail. Draw two single strands of hair on the left side to even out the level of the bangs.

STEP 4.

You can erase the guidelines now that you are done with them. But, before you do, using the circle as a guide, make a rounded rectangle against the right side of the head to show the hair tie. Out of the rectangle, on the top, make a single curved strand of hair to indicate the top of the ponytail.

STEP 5.

Finish making the ponytail by drawing single strands connected to each other just like the ones you used for the bangs. Make sure the ponytail falls behind the ear. The length of the ponytail can be as long or as short as you would like. Have fun with it!

STEP 6.

Now it's time to add the detail! In the ponytail itself, make a few random lines to show the texture of the hair and make it look more realistic. Across the crown of the head and the top of the ponytail by the hair tie, make zig-zag lines that curve to show where the light hits it. Also, add a few light/shadow lines to the hair along the ear and to the left of the head. I would strongly suggest that you take extra time during this step to make sure the shadow lines are placed properly. You want to make sure that the hair will look real!

STEP 7.

And when you're done, it's all about color preference. You can color the hair and the hair tie any color you like, but there is a rule for the shadow/light areas. Whatever color you color the hair in, the shadow areas must be one or two shades lighter. (For example, as shown, the hair is red and the shadow is a dark pink.) Be creative during this step to make your hair unique! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Thank you!

How is it horrible? On deviant art, you cant post tuts like this. It's for showing artwork. Both these tuts are great. You are being just as mean as he was by saying the other one is horrible. Check what you're out saying before you call someone else mean.

you should think about what you say b4 you say it i hate people like you thinking they can boss somewon around angry

I would like to see you do better oh your propbly to scared because you cant so if you want to blab your mouth like that then why dont i tell Dawn of what a mean person you are if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say it at all ! angry
