Drawing Galaxy Art

1

Begin by sketching out the shape of the face and head for the girl that is part of this galaxy drawing.

2

Using the guide you just made, begin to sketch out the structure of the face from a profile view.

3

We will now complete the face by drawing the eyebrow, closed lid, and eye lashes. When that is done you can draw the ear and detail the ear as well.

4

Here you will create the galaxy swirl that surrounds the girl's face. This is also acting like her hair. Start big with uneven lines to create a mass around the face and tapper off at the end.

5

This is the line art once complete. The next steps are tips on how to create the galaxy part.

6

First things first. Add dark shading or a black shadow layer inside the hair and and let it expand a little past the lines. You can do this by using a blur tool.

7

Then, I took a galaxy texture found on Google and overlaid it into the black blur I set as a base in the beginning. Usually I use the layer 'clipping mask' feature found in Photoshop. You can find the texture I used here: http://lpurpleswag.deviantar

8

Then, I start painting the face with a bit of dimension to the cheeks and some subtle highlights. I went subtle because later, I will overlay another texture in conjunction with the one already applied to the hair.

9

Then, I start painting my background, fillin' that sucker in with some deep indigo blues. To highlight around the background of the girl, I add lighter blue values.

10

Next, I overlay another pattern on top of this one, which can be found here: http://suga-drops.deviantart.com/art/Galaxy-Texture-570657342

11

Next, I play with the color values a bit and tighten up some of the shape around the hair so it looks like a vague form of swirled hair (kinda like a galaxy or nebula is formed)

12

Adjusting my red and blue values a bit and I ended up with this!

Description: This is something that I know a lot of you will definitely enjoy. As many of you know I love art and every once in a while I will get inspired to create colorful art and that is what you are seeing here. So, without much ado, here is how to draw Galaxy art, step by step. This lesson is probably one of the prettiest forms of art I have drawn in such a long time. The colors, the small planets and all the gasses and other particles that exist in the universe are all included. This may seem like a hard lesson by the look of the finished art, but in all reality it isn't. So just have fun and remember to expand that mind and be as creative as you want to be.
