How To Draw Punk Rock Hair

STEP 1.

As you would with any other anime drawing, you need a head first! Draw a circle and horizontal and vertical guidelines so you can average where the hair would fall.

STEP 2.

Now that you have the outline, you can freely draw in the basic outline of where the hair will fall. Start at the top, towards the left and work your way south-east to cover what would be the right eye. Fill in the rest of the hair on the other side. For this step, be sure to use quick and light strokes for the hair. If you press too hard or draw too defined, the hair will look stiff.

STEP 3.

You can erase the guidelines now that you have the basic form. Up at the top where the part is, add two or three bent lines to show volume. For shadowing purposes, and to make the hair look more realistic, make small zig-zag lines across the crown of the head. If you are not using highlights, you can skip this next step and just color it in. If you are using highlights, you need guidelines for them as well. As shown in red, make a few thin spaces where you would like your highlights to be placed. Be sure to make these light so they blend in when you color it.

STEP 4.

Finally you can begin to color! Shade in the highlights first and then color the hair around them. (Keep in mind- use any two colors that you would like. There are many other colors that will make awesome punk rock hair!)

STEP 5.

Once you shade in the shadow between the zig-zag lines, you are done! When doing so, make sure that you are using a color one or two shades darker that the normal color of the hair. (As shown, gray is used as a lighter color opposed to the hair color black.) That's it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! ^_^
