Drawing a Junkyard

1

The first step is pretty simple. All you have to do is draw the guides for the old man and some of the objects in the junkyard. Start with the figure first, then draw in the different shapes the way you see them done here.

2

Let us focus on the man. It is just a silhouette of a man which means you have to draw the head, hair, neck, shoulders and some of the shirt.

3

Complete the body (minus the arms) by drawing the shorts, legs and shoes. As I said this is just a silhouette of a man.

4

Now you can draw in the arm and hand followed by the walking stick he is using to poke around the junkyard with. Also, on the ground begin drawing some of the texture which is dirt, grass and other debris.

5

Here you will draw in the silhouette of the pile of rubble or junk in the close distance from the man as he walks past the pile. Add the detailing to the pile of junk or rubble by sketching in swirl lines, and other scuff marks.

6

Again, draw another mound of rubble or junk behind the first pile you made in step five. This time you can actually see an object defined enough to see that it is a speaker. Add definition accordingly.

7

Now the fun starts. I should mention that a lot of the objects in this lesson are almost all silhouettes. You will now draw the shape of a truck or old tractor. The tires should be rugged and the body of the tractor should be stubby and square.

8

Create the ground by sketching in the small tufts of grass scattered throughout the yard and then draw the more background objects around the back tire of the tractor.

9

In the huge metal pile of rubble to the right, you will draw in tires, metal parts and even the arm of a broken tractor. Pipes, and other sorts of junk are also in the pile, but you can choose to add what you like. I also included a branch from an ol

In the distance there is a hilltop and on that hilltop is a pile of evergreen trees. Since I live in the country, all you see is trees. Draw in the silhouette of trees upon the hilltop in the distance.

11

For the last drawing step you will draw in more junk as well as the bus I was talking about that is the office in this junkyard. This is an actual place and even though it seem surreal, it's not. Once everything else is added, you can go ahead and b

That's it. You have finished drawing a junkyard now you can color it all in. If you want to draw in the face for the figure go right ahead. Don't forget to upload your finished art when you are done.

Description: I don't know how many people know this, but I am originally a city girl who moved to the country when I was fourteen. Before coming to the country I never visited a junkyard or salvage yard before, but when I finally did go to one I was already twenty one and the junkyard was in the country. My experience at the junkyard left a lasting stain in my mind. Today I will be showing you how to draw a junkyard just as I remember it when I went almost two years ago. Everything you see in this image is real, the bus in the background is actually what they used for the office. It was a pretty cool place and I can't wait to go again sometime. For all you lovers of scrapyards, salvage yards or junkyards, this one is for you.
