Drawing a Lady Step by Step

Step 1.

Begin by drawing the frame guidelines and shapes. This will help us draw the lady in sections.

Step 2.

Starting with the head guide, sketch in the actual structure of the lady's face shape and then sketch in some of the hair line.

Step 3.

We will also use the facial guidelines to draw in the actual face. Draw the eyebrows, nose and then her mouth or lips.

Step 4.

Up next, we will draw in the lady's hairstyle which is tied up in a long relaxing ponytail. Sketch in the hair strand lines and then the band holding her hair in place.

Step 5.

We will now focus on the upper body. Start with the neck shape and then draw in the shoulders, arm and then her torso which consist of her breasts. Add some nice detailing to the shirt and body, then proceed to step six.

Step 6.

We will now work on her waist. Draw in her hand resting on her hip and then draw the belt, hips and some of the skirt.

Step 7.

We will now sketch in the rest of her long skirt. The skirt should cover her feet or shoes. The ends of the skirt should also be ruffled.

Step 8.

We will now draw in the hat which has some nice feathers. If you don't want your lady wearing a hat, just skip this step. Erase your mistakes and guidelines.

Step 9.

Here is the line art. Now you can color in your lady and that's it.

This is a fun lesson for all you folks out there that like drawing different types of people. For this submission we will be learning how to draw a lady, step by step. Since whenever I think of a lady, my mind automatically thinks of women from the early days when they wore long shirts, full covered shirts and extravagant hats. This is a drawing that was inspired by a movie I watched last night called 'The Making of a Lady'. The main character was such a petite figure who had a delicate style and grace. This lesson was fun to create and I hope you find a use for drawing a lady even if it's just for body figure drawing practice. Anyways, enjoy the lesson and let me know what you think. Adios folks.
