How about a tutorial on another insect? I was thinking about a certain bug that starts out looking like a hairy or bald worm, but then transforms into a beautiful butterfly. Yes, I am talking about teaching you guys “how to draw a caterpillar", step by step”. Caterpillar’s are one of the most collected insects around during the mid spring months. Although many believe that caterpillars only transform into butterflies, the fact is some of them transform into moths as well. One of my favorite butterflies is the Monarch butterfly, but there are other different beautiful species as well. A caterpillar is what you call an infant before they grow up and develop into their real form. You always know when there is a nest of caterpillars because you will see clusters of webbing in between tree branches all over the place. These species are called “tent caterpillars" and the webbing you often see is called a “silken tent”. Here is how a caterpillar comes into play. Before winter comes butterflies lay eggs. These tiny eggs will hatch after the winter is over and spring has begun into small worm like insects. After extensive munching on leaves and other greenery, these insects will grow larger and larger and will eventually need to “molt” it’s old skin away by splitting it in two. Remember when I told you that my favorite was the Monarch butterfly? Well the Monarch will eat a plant called “milkweed” and milkweed contains a chemical called “alkaloid”. If you where to eat a Monarch caterpillar on “Fear Factor" or out of the blue, you will find that the insect has a very bitter taste which makes it’s predators think twice before munching on their yellow and black hides. Once a caterpillar grows as big as it’s going to get, it will crawl into a nice hiding place and spin a silken cocoon to live in. Once they have lived there long enough they will break from their cocoons and turn into either beautiful butterflies or big moths. The tutorial that I will be submitting, will show you “how to draw a caterpillar", step by step”. All the steps are easy to follow and the instructions are simple to read and understand. I have one more tutorial to submit so stay tuned in. Peace out and happy drawing!

How to Draw a Caterpillar

how to draw a caterpillar step 1

STEP 1.

Very easy to do when you want a lesson on "how to draw a caterpillar step by step". Start with an egg shape for the top half of the caterpillar and then a smaller circle for the end part of the bug. You will draw the caterpillar's body line of position and then move onto the next step.

STEP 2.

You will start sketching out the actual top lining shape for the caterpillars body as seen here. You will then draw the beginning parts of the front portion of the caterpillars head and or face.

STEP 3.

Okay, as you can see you will start drawing out the exterior of the caterpillar's body as seen here making sure that the body is drawing in sections since that is how a caterpillar's body actually is. No one section is ever the same size when in movement.
