how to draw a gryphon
how to draw a gryphon step 1

STEP 1.

In this step Draw the guidelines that will help you sketch the gryphon alot easier. Start by drawing a round head with a long curved neck that goes down the back ending at the tail. Next, draw a waved line for the wing, then two round shapes inside the body for, the body. Legs and feet are the next thing to be drawn.

STEP 2.

Now you can out line around the shapes you made in step 1 to form the actual image of the gryphon. As you can see in the image above the beak is drawn halfway inside the round shape for the head. Just above that sketch in the pointed ears and a squarish shaped head. Below draw the clawed feet in the front and the lions limbs in the back. Finish off the step with the tail.

STEP 3.

Now in this step you can work on drawing the wings which is relatively easy. It is the same as drawing any bird wing just bigger. Feather the tips and wait till a later step to actually fill in the rest of the feathers. Move to the face of the gryphon and draw in the eyes and holes on the beak. Feather up the neck with fluffiness, and work your way down to the elbow of the front legs. Draw in the hind leg set in the back and again add some fluff detail to the hind leg that is in full view. draw the nails on the claws on all the feet before moving to the next step.

STEP 4.

This is where yo can start filling in the feather detail in the gryphon's wings. Take your time because you want them to look realistic. Feather up the back of the neck and down the spin. Detail the front legs by adding lines to make the legs look like an eagles leg. Finish off what you need to do in this step by looking at the picture and proceed on.

STEP 5.

This is a short step that is just you basically finishing off the feathers in the wing. Again take your time and when you are satisfied move to the next step.

how to draw a gryphon step 6

STEP 6.

Again a simple step that just involves fluffing up the tail. After you are done with that erase all the guidelines that you created in step 1, and clean up your drawing bu erasing the sketch marks on the pad. When you are finished with perfecting your sketch move to step 7.

STEP 7.

This is what you should end up with when you are done. All that is left to do is color him or her in and let your imagination go wild.

Yep! I did that for a reason XD. Alot of people type in the search engines how to draw a gryphon, griffin, or griffon. So I made three tutorials with that keyword in it so people would find me for either phrase!

This particular animal is a legendary creature used in many tales through out time. The Gryphon has the head, front feet, and wings of an eagle, and the body including the hind legs of a lion. The symbol of the lion is used because he is considered to be the king of beast, and the eagle is the king of the skies, and of all birds. Combined you have a strong and majestic creature of divine power. There are different ways that people spell this creature, I spell it as “Gryphon” or it can be spelt as “griffin” or “griffon”. No matter how you spell the name the animal remains the same. It is true that in some pictures you see the gryphon with lion’s feet instead of eagle claws. Even though it has the head of an eagle, it has the ears of a lion, and the tail in some illustrations looks like a serpent, and in others, a lion. The symbol of the gryphon can be seen as a charge in heraldry on many shields through out the world. In ancient Greek times, cauldrons the shape of a gryphon’s head where used often in those days invented around 700 BC. One thing is certain; the gryphon has been described in many scrolls and books through out history from all over the world. Did they really exist? Who knows, but the tales seem real enough for me to believe that at one time we had guardians flying the skies and walking the earth. In this tutorial you will learn how to draw a gryphon with detailed instructions and easy steps. I’ve been a fan of this creature since I was like 8 years old, this is a sketch of my early work that was sitting in my sketch pad and is now up for all you to see.
