How to Draw a Rose Tattoo Design

1

Begin by drawing the center cell of the rose which is the bud in a tight wrap still.

2

Next, sketch out the three petals that will surround the center of the rose like so.

3

We will add another layer of rose petals that wrap around the petals you just drew in. The more layers you draw, the bigger the petals get.

4

Now the petals will start folding over because they are getting bigger. Sketch in three to four more rose petals like you see here with the larger one folding over.

5

Make a series of petals to form a full looking bloom. When this task is complete you will be finished with drawing a rose.

6

Now draw the three leaves which act as a bed for the rose. The edges should be serrated or jagged in small points.

7

Define the leaves by sketching in the rib indents, then darken the middle line down the center of the leaves.

8

Almost done, only one more step after this one. You will draw in the thorns that surround the back part of the rose. Some of the thorns are larger then others, bit you can choose how big you want them.

9

And finally, draw in the scattered pieces of blood, debris or what have you to add a complexity to your rose tattoo design concept. You can add some dripping blood from the petals if you like as well.

10

The finished concept looks like the drawing you see here. Now all that is left to do is color in the flower.

Description: I have yet again another rose tattoo tutorial that I think you will all enjoy. There was a few names that I was going to give this tut but in the end I decided that calling it "how to draw a rose tattoo design" was the best option because that is what I intend to do. To switch things up a bit with the coloring concept I tried making the rose bleed a bit with the long sharp thorns in a clawing style. The rose is almost perfectly drawn to a simple format. I mean, if I where to make it any easier to draw, then the rose wouldn't look like a rose. Drawing roses is something that is fun, but if you are new to the whole rose concept, you might need to try an easier lesson so you can get the hang of drawing rose petals the way they should be. As you know rose petals are layered and fold over one another. Anyways, have fun and be sure to keep those eyes open because there is more lessons coming your way.
