I hope you all liked the tutorial on the skateboarder that I submitted for all of you people out there that love to sketch, draw and color. This next and final lesson is going to be on "how to draw a surfer, step by step". This was definitely a challenge for me to color. The finished colored drawing looks like a painted sketch that took forever. To tell you the truth, it did take forever to color in the surfer that I drew out because I used a different coloring technique that I learned from reading various Adobe Photoshop books. Surfing is a water sport that was derived from the Hawaiian culture. Like surfboards from today, in the past they were made from the best wood available from the best tree. The best surfers in Polynesian culture are called chiefs and they are offered only the best waves from the best beaches on the best surfs. Back in the 1700's, surfing was done naked and they really felt the power of the waves. All surfing terms used today are from the Hawaiian language and some of the best surfing can be found is done in Hawaii. California is also a very good place to find some righteous waves as well. Surfers some times wait for hours until the perfect wave comes along just to get the adrenalin rush from riding an awesome wave. Actors like Matthew McConaughey surfs California waves and believe me something like that doesn't go unnoticed. Does the sport of surfing have champions like the Olympics you ask? Yes they do. In fact there is a three time World Champion named Andy Irons that is recognized by surfers all around the surfing world. Even though I had a hard time with this drawing, I still had an awesome time sketching him out. It is time for me to go and start drawing tutorials for tomorrow, but in the mean time you should tackle this lesson on "how to draw a surfer, step by step". I will be back tomorrow, but you can still catch me online drawing or chatting. Peace out people, and right on!

How to Draw a Surfer

how to draw a surfer dude step 1

STEP 1.

You will start this step by drawing out the body guidelines for the surfer. First draw a circle for the head and then draw out the shape of the torso, add the arm, leg, hands, and feet guidelines. You will end this step by drawing out the ocean wave that is going him.

STEP 2.

In this next step you will start sketching in the foam for the wave and then at the same time draw another arched line for the wave as well. Next start sketching in the surfers hair style and then the shape of his face. Sketch out the shirt lining as seen here and make sure you add some texture to it.

STEP 3.

As you can see your ocean surf waves are starting to look more alive. What you will do here is sketch in the ocean flat that the board rides. Be sure to sketch in all the lines and definition to the ocean waves and flat surf. You will also sketch in more detail to the face and the shirt as seen here. Draw out the arm and then the shape of the surfboard.

STEP 4.

You will ow focus on the drawing of the surfer now. Detail his hair but not too much because it is wet. Next add more wrinkles and creases on the shirt and then draw out the other arm that is reaching for the wave. Surfers do this for balance while they are riding the waves. You will then draw out his legs and his shorts. Add some definition and then move to th next step.

STEP 6.

This is your last drawing step and what you will do now is just simply detail the water and the wave. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one and then move to the last step to see what your sketch should look like.

I hope you guys had fun with this lesson. I worked really hard on it and I know that you will work hard learning from how to draw a surfer dude step by step. If you want to color in the surfer you can do so or you can leave him as a black and white sketch. Maybe I will show you guys how to draw a surfboard in future tutorials, who knows?
