As you can see your dog is starting to look more like the real thing once this step is complete. All you have to do is sketch out the rest of the dog's body and make sure you show the jagged hairs pieces because this dog has a good amount of hair. Draw out the eyes using the facial guidelines you drew in step one. Add the shape of his nose and then the tongue which is hanging out of his mouth. It is time for another animal tutorial and this time you will be learning "how to draw a Saint Bernard", step by step. The Saint Bernard is a dog that is very recognized by almost everyone. These dogs are best known to be famous for their rescue missions and through tales of their brave and daring attempts to save people’s lives over the years. This is the dog breed that is known for carrying a small barrel like container around its neck attached to the collar. One of the most famous of all Saint Bernard’s was from the family movie “Beethoven” which was about a family who adopted a St. Bernard puppy that later turned into a huge family member that was sometimes impossible to handle. The Saint Bernard is a strong, muscular dog that is primarily white in color with patches or markings of tan, red, mahogany, brindle and black. Their face and ears are covered in black with the white muzzle untouched. It is said that St. Bernard’s have a sixth sense that allows them to detect and “predict” when danger is near whether it be from weather or a catastrophe. Although the dog is quite large, they are actually very gentle and friendly which makes them excellent family dogs because they have a high tolerance when it comes to little hands from playful children. This giant of a dog is very slow moving unless in a rescue mission, and they tend to be very loyal. Like the German Shepherd, Bernard’s are very intelligent making them easy to train from an early age. Now because they grow to be very large dogs, they need to be trained not to jump on people. Their average weight ranges between 110 to 200 pounds and they need to be regularly exercised to maintain a healthy emotional nature. Saint Bernard’s originated in the Swiss Alps between Italy and Switzerland. It is believed that the dogs breed was made by the mastiff and later crossed with the Great Dane and Great Pyrenees. The end result is what we know and love today. Back in the early days Saint Bernard’s were used as rescue dogs near snowy passes. All in all these were and still are incredible dogs that deserve a lot of respect and compassion. This lesson will show you "how to draw a Saint Bernard", step by step with only a few steps and simple to understand and follow directions. I shall return so stay tuned for more upcoming tutorials that are sure to please.
