Well I thought that it was time for another tutorial on a dog breed that has made a name for itself mainly because of the Disney movie 101 Dalmatians. I wanted to do a lesson on this dog for a long time now but I never got around to it. Now that I had some spare time, I decided to submit a tutorial on "how to draw a Dalmatian", step by step. These breeds are also referred to as the firehouse dog because it is used mainly as a mascot for fire departments around the Continental U.S. The Dalmatian is believed to be related to the Pointer because of its sleek, muscular and symmetrical body frame. Dalmatians have a white colored coat that is speckled with different shaped spots. Most of us have a mental picture of Dalmatians having only black spots, but the truth is their spots come in either black, medium brown, blue, and dark grey which can sometimes look black. The odd thing about these dogs is that their nails are either the color of their white hair or the same color of their spots. Another unique feature about the famous firehouse dog is that their eyes can come in dark brown, blue or amber. As you may remember by the Disney cartoon, Dalmatians puppies are always born completely white and they develop their spots later with age. Because this breed needs a lot of human contact, they are not recommended to just be placed in the backyard tied up to a tree. They love playing with kids, going for walks, and they enjoy a good amount of mental activity as well. Which is why the Dalmatian is an eager breed to command train with. There is one health problem that they are known for and that is being born deaf. This is the reason why these dogs should have their hearing checked when they reach seven to eight weeks old. Now you would think that because they have such short coats shedding wouldn’t be a problem right? Wrong, the truth is Dalmatians go through extreme shedding at least twice a year and for some owners it is a very frustrating problem to keep maintained. No matter how you look at the breed Dalmatians make excellent fire dogs, family dogs, and awesome dogs to exercise with mentally and physically. This lesson will show you "how to draw a Dalmatian", step by step. So go on and tackle tutorial, and I will be back once again with something new.

STEP 1.

Start this step by drawing out three circles that are all different in size. The mid-section shape is kind of oval and the hind circle looks like and egg. You will then add the facial guidelines as well as the leg and paw lines and shapes.

STEP 2.

As you can see you will start drawing out the shapes of the loose ears and then the beginning lines for the bridge of the dog’s nose. Then add the line for the right side of his neck and let the line follow all the way down forming a back and hind leg. Next draw the front leg lines and a bit of the ankles.

STEP 5.

This is the step were you will draw out all the spot shapes that your Dalmatian is marked with. Of course you can design your own marks which will mean that you have to use your imagination. Erase the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one to clean up your drawing.
