How to Draw JD Salinger

1

Begin by drawing the shape of J.D.'s head guide like so, then sketch out the shoulders. Add the facial guidelines and proceed with step two.

2

For step two, you will begin sketching out the face structure and if you notice J.D. has an oblong shaped face. Draw in the ear, and then move to step three.

3

You will now sketch out the combed back hairstyle, then sketch in the detailing to add texture to his hair as well.

4

Start the drawing process for the eyes, then move to step five.

5

Sketch out and color in the thick eyebrows, then draw the eyeballs, bags under the eyes and add the wrinkle lines on the forehead.

6

Next, sketch out the broad shape of J.D.'s nose like so, then add a beauty mark on the cheek near his nose, then add an indent on the side of his face.

7

Sketch out the lips, chin ball, and then draw the cigarette. Don't forget to detail the face near the jawline. Add some shading inside the mouth.

8

Okay, sketch out the inner ear detailing and that is all you have to do in this step.

9

Draw the shape of the neck, then draw the shirt collar at the base of the neck as well.

10

For the last drawing step all you have to do is sketch out the shoulders for the jacket, then draw the suit jacket flaps. Add the tie and you are all done. Erase your mistakes before you go.

Here is the line art when you are finished. Color in your drawing of J.D. Salinger to complete the lesson.

Description: Okay guys, so here is that lesson I said I had for you all based on a writer who is best known for A Catcher in the Rye. Here is "how to draw J.D. Salinger", step by step. How could I not make a lesson on this legendary American writer. Jerome David Salinger has always been a fella that had a secretive side. He is a solitary man that doesn't care much for the public eye. He loves his solitude so much, the last interview he gave was back in 1980. J.D. began writing short stories when he was young and in 1951 Catcher in the Rye was published. For those of you that read the book you should know what it's about, but for those of you that haven't had the chance to read it yet, its about a young man named Holden Caulfield who struggles with the everyday stresses of dealing with alienation and loss of innocence. I read half the book and I can tell you that it is definitely a book that you sink right into. It is extremely hard to stop reading Catcher in the Rye once you start because Holden is such a tragic character. The descriptive talk and passion behind each word used in the book is captivating. If there is a time where you feel like you want to read something good, grab a copy of Cather in the Rye and you will understand what I am talking about. Have fun drawing J.D. Salinger folks, I will be back later with more lessons for you all.
