Here is another monster from The Monster Hunter game series. In this lesson you will learn" how to draw Rathalos" which is a wyvern style dragon. As you know wyverns are dragons that don't have front or upper limbs and a set of wings. Instead their arms are their wings which make them even more interesting creatures. Rathalos are best recognized by their crimson color and their huge wings that have amazing fire markings or patterns. These monsters or dragons are in The Monster Hunter 3 series and can be located in forests or other areas because they live almost anywhere. I love the style of this wyvern not only because of the wing pattern and color of the beast, but also because of the dragon concept design. I really enjoyed making this lesson so I know all you dragon lovers will also like drawing Rathalos too. There is still more coming your way so stay put to see what shows up next.

How to Draw Rathalos, Monster Hunter

how to draw rathalos, monster hunter step 1

STEP 1.

You will begin this lesson the same way you do all dragon tuts. Begin by making some circles for the head, body and legs. Next, sketch in the guidelines for the wings, neck, legs and tail.

STEP 2.

Next, sketch in the snout of the dragon which in this step looks almost like an eagle's beak. Add the lining to create the forehead, then draw the teeth that fills it's mouth.

STEP 3.

Continue to work on getting the head sketched out and when you are done you can sketch in the crowning horns, and the frilled jowls. There should also be some detailing done to the brow of this dragon as well.

STEP 4.

Here you will sketch out the thick spiky neck. Once that is complete, draw the shoulder and some of the torso. Sketch in the detailing to the back part of the neck, then move along to step five.

STEP 5.

Instead of drawing the arms or wings, we will tackle sketching out the thigh, and lower part of the leg as well as the foot or talon. Notice that this dragon species has talons that resemble that of an eagle. Add surface definition for texture to the animals hide.

STEP 6.

Sketch out the lining to form the back and some of the arm, then draw in the other leg and talon. As you can see this dragon is in a crouched position almost like it's ready to come down on something or prey. Add detailing where needed, then proceed to step seven.

STEP 7.

Okay, I know starting downward instead of from top to bottom is a little weird, but I just thought for this monster it would be easier to tackle to get the large or hardest aspects of it's design done first. Sketch out the large or long thick tail, and as you can see there is a series of spikes that are different shaped. Add some scaling to the tail, as well as some hide definition.

STEP 8.

Now we can proceed with drawing the rest of the dragon's arm as well as the wing. Sketch out the top portion of the arm first, then draw in the expanded wing. The wings are supposed to look huge so be sure to draw them fully open. Add detailing to the skin tissue of the wing, then add some pointed tips for the nails.

STEP 9.

Lastly, finish up this drawing on Rathalos by drawing out the other wing. You will also need to add some detailing to the wing as well until yours comes out looking like the one you see here in this step. Erase the mistakes so you can see what the overall drawing looks like.

STEP 10.

Here is Rathalos all sketched out and ready to color in. I do hope you enjoyed another tut on one of The Monster Hunter's species. I know it's always fun drawing wyverns no matter where they are from.
