How to Draw a Chameleon
Today is a new day and with this new day comes new drawing tutorials. For my first lesson I will be showing you how to draw a chameleon step by step. These lizard like animals are very cool looking and very cool in general. For some people owning a chameleon as a pet is better than owning an iguana. Chameleons are the reptilian creatures that are said to have the ability to camouflage themselves from predators and from prey. These animals are truly fascinating in every aspect of the word. What other reptile do you know of have upper and lower eyelids joined together with a small hole that is only large enough for their pupils to pierce through so that they can have a bird’s eye view on their surroundings. Did you know that Chameleons have the ability to use one eye at a time? It’s true; the Chameleon can rotate its eyes or eye at a full 360-degree arc to see what is in front of him, behind him, to the left or to the right of him. Now, I know you might think just by the description I am giving you so far this animal is incredible. But guess what, you haven’t read anything yet. Chameleons have very strong and very long tongues that they use to capture prey. When I say that their tongues are long, I mean that they are sometimes longer than their own bodies. Did you know that a chameleons tongue moves faster that the human eye can follow? Yup this is also true; when extending their tongues it literally moves at 26 body lengths per second and hits its prey at an amazing thirty thousandths of a second. They also have five toes on each foot but they are fuzzed together in a way that allows them to tightly grip onto the surfaces they sit on which are mainly narrow branches. They also have a sharp nail so that they are able to climb on bark when approaching a tree. No matter how you look at this reptilian creature, they are amazing. I will show you how to draw a chameleon step by step. I hope you enjoy this easy to follow tutorial and when you are done you will have a pet of your own. STEP 1.
Okay lets start this first easy step by drawing out the guidelines and shapes of the chameleon. Start with a circle for the head and then make the beginning shape of the round eye. You will then draw out the mouse like body shape and from that add the arm and leg lines as well as the tail that curls at the tip.
STEP 2.
Here in step two you will start by sketching out the shape of the body and head as seen here. After that begin drawing out the skinny shape of the front arm and then the spin line.
STEP 3.
Well, you have reached step three and what you will do here id draw out the bottom portion of the jaw or mouth. Once that is complete you will then draw out the toes on both the front and back foot as well as the shaping of the hind leg. Now that you have done that you can proceed onto drawing out the thickness of the chameleons tail and make sure that you have it curl inward at the tip. Add some definition to the back and then move onto the next step.
STEP 4.
Well you have reached the final drawing step and what you will do next is draw out the circle shape of his eye and add a dot right in the upper right hand side. Next finish off the body and limb shapes and when doing so make sure you add a hint of wrinkling and a few creases. Finish off the thickness of the tail and then start erasing all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one.
STEP 5.
Once you are complete your chameleon should look like the one you see here. All you have to do now is color him in and remember you can get a bit creative since chameleons come in many different colors and shades. That is it you have done it!
