To draw the legendary AC/DC guitarist, Angus Young, you should start by first sketching in some basic guide lines. Using a 2H or harder pencil, lightly sketch in a stick figure shape such as this on. Be sure to include the basic shape of the guitar so we know proper hand placement. These lines do not have to be perfect, since they will be erased later on.
Next, we should sketch in the basic human form. Doing this will ensure that the figure is proportionate when we go to apply clothing later on. You do not need to include details such as facial feature or fingers. These lines are just guides as well. Angus Young is known for having a slightly large heard in comparison to his body. Also sketch in the eye, nose, and mouth lines.
Now that all our guide lines are in place, let's start working on the face. Make sure that the eyes are in the center of the face, along the eye line. They should be squinting slightly, and looking down at the guitar. His lips can be puckered slightly as well.
Young's signature look is his schoolboy uniform, which also often includes a hat. Be sure to draw the hat before drawing the hair.
He has long, wild, sometimes somewhat frizzy hair that should poof out from underneath the hat.
For the body, lets' first draw the lapel of the schoolboy jacket, and then an undershirt and tie. Draw part of the undershirt collar sticking out so as to make him look more wild.
Now draw the right arm and hand. The arm should be bent at the elbow. The thumb and index finger on the hand should be grasping a guitar pick as he plays the instrument, with the other fingers sticking out. Be sure to draw some folds and wrinkles on the jacket in the location of the arm joints. Draw a small piece of the undershirt sleeve poking out from beneath the sleeve of the jacket.
The left hand will be gripping the neck of the guitar. The jacket on the arm with have a series of circular folds at this perspective. Draw the hand so that the palm is facing up. The thumb should be curled over the top of the guitar, and the fingers are curled from the bottom. Make the fingers look as if they are each pressing down on a different guitar string.
The guitar can be a tad tricky. First, start by drawing the shape of the neck. Allow the base of the neck to be longer than needed, so we know the proper placement of the body of the guitar for the next step. You will have to erase some of the palm of the left hand in order to draw the guitar neck.
Next, draw the body of the guitar. Use the neck of the guitar as a guide. The body of the guitar should have a fat base which curls up and creates a point of both sides.
Add more detail to the guitar such as a the knobs and power wire. Draw the strings up the neck , the frets (the little horizontal lines along the neck), and the tuning pegs on the head which the strings attach to.
Let's go back to the figure and draw the legs. One leg should be kicking out. The schoolboy uniform should have shorts rather than pants.
Finally, draw the socks and shoes. The socks should be bunch up around the ankles with lots of folds and wrinkles in them. Be sure to draw the sole of left shoe.
Now that we are done penciling the image, we can ink it using a Micron marker or a brush and India ink. Carefully go over each line with patience and be sure not to accidentally ink any unneeded guide lines. When the ink is dry, erase your pencil marks with a kneaded eraser.
You can add more depth to the image by giving it shadow. Establish your light source and use black ink or a fat tipped black marker to shade the opposite side of the figure and every clothing wrinkle and fold. Also shade in the body of the guitar with black.
If you need to make any corrections, use white ink or opaque white paint. You can also use it to add highlights if needed, or to add more detail to the guitar. And that is how you draw Angus Young from AC/DC! Rock on!
