How to Draw a Real Lion, Draw Lions

1

This tutorial starts with the head of a male lion. First of all draw the guide lines. Draw the outline of the muzzle(notice the longer fur on the chin). Then, draw eye, nose (add also the nostril), mouth and ear.

2

Draw the long mane. It's one of the most distinctive characteristics of the species and it makes the lion appear larger. Only adult male lions have mane. At the end, add the details and you're done.

3

Now we'll draw a roaring female lion. Draw the guide lines: circle for the head, small circle for the ear, basic forms of neck and open mouth. Then draw the outline of the figure. When you've done it, add eye, nose and open mouth. Notice how the

4

Now, it's time to draw detail into the mouth: teeth and tongue. Lion teeth are very long and sharp, especially the four canines, used to kill the prey. Add the details, such as wrinkles on the muzzle, fur and whiskers and you're done.

5

Now let's draw a full body lioness. Draw simple shapes for the guide lines like in the image. Draw also the lines into the head that will help you to put the various parts of the face in the right places.

6

Draw the outline of the head and the muzzle. As we said before, the fur on the chin is a tad longer. The ears are round shaped and they can be swiveled over a wide angle to enable the lion to hear distant sounds.

7

Now, finish the lioness face. Add round eyes (lions have round pupils), nose (it's shaped like a sort of heart) and fur into the ears.

8

Draw neck, shoulders and forelegs. The forebody of the lion is very muscular and powerfull. The paws are big and have retractible and very sharp claws. The forepaws have five toes while the hind paws have four toes.

9

Draw the rest of the body and the hind legs with the hind paws (four toes). The body is very muscular and elastic. Add the long and thin tail with a tuft of hair on its tip.

10

Add fur, muscles, whiskers and other details and the lioness is finished! If you want to turn this female lion into a male lion you have to draw a bulkier body and the mane (look at steps 1 and 2). Male lions are also bigger and heavier than females

Description: The lion is the tallest (at the shoulder) of all living felines. Lions are also the only members of the cat family to display obvious sexual dimorphism (the mane), so it's very easy to distinguish a male lion from a female lion. I hope you'll find this tutorial useful!
