Native Americans, if you ask me about Native Americans I’ll tell you I feel bad for those people because they are the true American. They lived on our land with peace, grace, and they lived with the respect for nature and the land god gave us. As you know over time there were many Indian Chiefs that put a stain in the fabric of life. In order to be a chief you had to prove that you had strength, bravery, and the ability to be a great leader. Some of the Great Indian Chiefs were Cochise from the Apache tribe who led the resistance against the Mexicans and the white man in the 1800s. Then we have another Apache named Geronimo who was a prisoner in Fort Sill Oklahoma who attempted many escapes but was captured. He was never allowed to return to his home. Over time he became a bit of a celebrity with his old age. He made appearances in the 1904 World’s Fair as well as others. He made money selling his pictures and collectibles before he died in 1909. One more Famous Chief I will mention before I go is Sitting Bull. He was a Sioux Indian Chief that battled General George Custer and the U.S. 7th Calvary in the battle of Little Bighorn. This was an Indian army that had both Sioux and Cheyenne Indians. That battle was probably the most famous of all Indian battles. Sitting Bull also enjoyed the limelight with his age. He traveled with Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show and many said that he cursed at the audience in his native language for their amusement. Indian Chiefs of today are very peaceful and can be seen sometimes at pow wows. In this tutorial I will show you how to draw an Indian Chief in detail. I did not add any color to this sketch I figure you can use your own imagination for that. Besides I didn’t have the time to color.

STEP 4.

At this point, put more details in the headdress and put definition to his face. Give his face signs of aging. But let him be graceful.

STEP 5.

What you want to do now is start adding the strings on the headdress. You also want to add some thickness to the eyebrows. What we also have to do in this step is draw the bone structure to his face look at the chin.

STEP 6.

As you can see the Chief is looking almost whole. All we are really doing here is adding some more string detail to the headdress.

STEP 7.

Start sketching out the top of the headdress by individually making little bone pieces that are part of the headdress. This holds the feathers in place. Don't forget the shirt line.
