Okay let’s do a quick recap on what I have submitted for you all today. So far I have shown you how to draw a longhorn head skull, Taz the Tasmanian devil, anime people kissing, and a beautiful peacock. For my fifth drawing lesson of the day I will show you how to draw a Gladiator step by step. This is a very popular warrior that has been requested by several members of DragoArt. I never had enough time to fulfill this request because it is a very time consuming project to complete. A gladiator doesn’t just carry a sword; he is also equipped with a heavy shield, a helmet, chine guards, wrist or forearm bands, and even sometimes plated chest armor. Roman gladiators were fighters that battled in ancient Rome in big arenas that are also known as coliseums. They would often battle or fight wild animals like lions and tigers, condemned criminals like murderers and thieves, and even each other solely for the purpose of entertainment to the Roman people in many cities during the Roman Empire years. At first gladiator fighting was not something that was accepted, but the more people attended, the more people accepted it. One of the best movies that was released depicted gladiators to the T. It was called “Gladiator” and it stared Russell Crow. That movie was so awesome and I absolutely fell in love with all the special effects and adventure it took you on. The gladiator that I am going to show you how to draw is in a typical stand still position fully equipped with a gladiator sword, a brassard (which is the armband armor you see wrapped around the wrist), a greave (which is the plate of armor that covers the shin of your leg), and a thick leather belt. Sometimes they would also wear helmets that had tufts made of horsehair. Some helmets were silver and some were gold depending on the rank of gladiator that was fighting. This tutorial will show you how to draw a gladiator step by step. He is very basic and easy to tackle which means you should finish him in no time at all. I will be back soon with more drawing fun so stay tuned.

How to Draw a Gladiator

how to draw a gladiator step 1

STEP 1.

Okay lets start this first step by drawing out the guidelines and shapes of the gladiator. Start by drawing a circle shape for the head and then add the facial guidelines. You will then add the squared shape for his torso and add the limb guidelines after that. Make sure you draw out the feet shapes and shield line.

STEP 2.

Now in this second step you will start drawing out the actual shape of the gladiators body starting with the shoulders and then the skirt like bottom clothing. Once that is complete you will draw out the shape of his arms and legs as well as the gladiator helmet shape. Make sure you add the lining to form the feet as well.

STEP 3.

You have now made it to the third step which means you are practically almost done. What you will start in in this step is the sketching and detailing of the helmet as well as the shape of his eyes. Once you have completed that task you can add a neck line and then detail his shoulder plates some more. You will then add the ruffle lining to the bottom of his skirt and add the straps around the top of his feet for his sandals. Give him some toes and a shield as well as the butt of the sword.

STEP 4.

This is your last drawing step and what you will do now is add the wrinkles and creases to the gladiators clothes as shown. Once you have done that add more definition to the helmet and face as well as the wrist guards. Detail the shin guards and then draw out the blade of his sword. You will now start erasing all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one.

STEP 5.

And here you have the finished product. Once you have completed this tutorial on how to draw a gladiator, your sketch should come out looking like the one you see here. All you have to do now is color him in and then you are done.
