How to Draw a Goalie

Well so far today I showed you all how to draw a wicked cool hockey puck and a baseball player. It is now time that I submit my third tutorial on another sports character and this time I will be showing you "how to draw a goalie", step by step. Now even though hockey goalies don’t physically skate around on the ice rink, they serve a very important purpose. Their job is to prevent the ice puck from successfully getting inside of the goal net that the goalie stands in front of to protect. There are four different kinds of hockey that is played today. There is field hockey, ice hockey, street hockey and roller hockey. Now field hockey is played on gravel, grass, or artificial turf, using a small, hard ball. Ice hockey is played on a large flat surface of ice, using a puck that is three inches in diameter. Roller hockey is very similar to ice hockey except the hockey players use in-line roller blade like skates to move around the arena. And lastly there is the game called street hockey. This version is very similar to ice and roller hockey except all the players on playing on the very same streets that we drive on today. Instead of using a puck, street hockey is played with a ball instead of a puck. The goalie is the only player that wears an extensive amount of padding all over his whole body. The most popular part of a hockey goalie’s uniform is in fact the hockey mask. This is the very same mask that Jason Voorhees wears from Friday the Thirteenth. I had a lot of fun drawing out this sports character because I actually learned something new. I know you guys will have an awesome learning how to draw a hockey goalie step by step. I will be back with more fun drawing lessons in a bit so keep your eyes open and your hands ready.

STEP 1.

Okay start this step by drawing out the shapes and guidelines of the goalie starting with a circle for the shape of the head. You will then add the facial guidelines. You will then draw out the shape of the top part of the goalie's body and then add the rectangular shapes for the legs and then the shapes for the foot padding. Add the guidelines for the arms.

STEP 2.

You will start drawing out the detailing lines on the hockey mask and then the detailing of the jersey shirt as seen here. You will then draw out the line shapes. Start detailing the legs padding and then the skate padding as you see here.

STEP 3.

In this third step you all you will do is sketch in more detailing and definition on the legs padding and then add the wrinkle and crease lines on the sleeves and then draw out the shape of the goalie hockey stick. Give him an outline of a hand and then move to the next step.

STEP 4.

Well you have finally made it to your final drawing step and what you will do now is add the detailing bar lines on the grill of the hockey mask. Once that is done add more wrinkle line to the shirt and then the rest of the definition lines on the protective padding that a hockey goalie wears. Erase all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one.

STEP 5.

Once your done your drawing should come out looking like the one you see here. All you have to do now is color him your favorite hockey team colors and you are done. That finishes this tutorial on how to draw a hockey goalie step by step.

Lol...not as unfinished as this one(which is why I like it). It shows even a half finished picture can look alive. I think the only others I have is the 92% finished Ikran that I'm too lazy to shade and the Tyrannosaurus Rex which I'm not planning on shading anytime soon because it looks fine as it is now. You might think I have more unfinished works because maybe you speechlessumed that I shade all of my pictures. Sorry to disappoint you, but no, I do not shade all my pictures. I wouldn't have any pencils if I did that.
