I can't tell you all how long this tutorial has been sitting in my folder. I was supposed to upload this tut on "how to draw deserts" the same time I made those other lessons on forests and the plateau. Drawing a desert scene can be difficult for people that have no imagination, or don't know where to start. I've never personally been to a desert to know what types of things to draw in one, but I have watched a ton of movies, read a lot of books, and looked at many pictures. To me a desert is a sandy, hot lonely place that no one should live in unless they had, or wanted to. Nevada is a desert that is filled with people, casinos, and restaurants. Even though there is people that live and thrive in desert areas, on the outskirts of their dwellings look just like or close to the thumbnail picture you see here. I've included dirt, mounds, cactus trees, and rocky mountains. Just because a desert is dry, it can still be a beautiful place to admire. I think you will enjoy this lesson because there is helpful tips that will allow you to draw a desert to your liking. I have some other awesome tuts coming your way on this Labor Day Monday so stay put people!

STEP 1.

Now, if you're curious as to what vegitation to draw on your deserted desert, I'd advise you to reference as much as possible on the various landscapes of deserts. Here's just a few of the many types of vegetation in these landscapes. 1) is a typical cactus blended with palm styled trees. 2) is the abstract forked cactus which mainly consist of 3 stems. 3) is a cactus that have various stems, but a very long and thin base.

STEP 5.

Now that the foundation is drawn, we can start drawing out some of the cactus bushes. As you can see I've included the typical looking cactus, as well as the short stubby cactus that have flowers sprouting at the tips.

Lastly, draw the background of you desert which should be a far off distant, mountain view. Add detailing to the mounds, then draw in some more huge boulder rocks. Erase the mistakes then you're done.
