How to Draw a Monkey Orchid

Start with a shape that looks very much like a jelly bean. Sketch in the facial guides, then draw out the guidelines for the petals of the flower.

Begin sketching out the actual structure of the center part for the orchid. This is what makes the flower look like a monkey. As you can see the middle part is drawn in a tube like manner making it look like a baboons snout.

Add two eyes by simply making dots with lids, then draw in what appears to be a nose, and mouth.

Now it's time to draw out the face framing petals that surrounds the center of the orchid. As you can see there is only three petals and they all round out in the mid section as they then tapper off at the ends.

Add some petal detailing like so, then you can proceed to step six.

Lastly, draw out the single stem which is found on a per flower basis. The step is woodsy instead of tender. Erase the mistakes you make have made along the way.

Here is the odd bit beautiful monkey flower. Color it in and you are all done.

Description: I bet you are looking at the image before you and saying to yourself “no way this is not real”. Well guess what? It is very real I read an article that had a bunch of amazing things that exist listed and this flower and the blue sea slug was on that very list. Now because these very odd looking species really are living breathing things, as well as incredibly intriguing, I wanted to make a couple tutorials based on the beauties of our world. Once again I bring you a rare treat, "how to draw a monkey orchid", step by step. These orchid flowers are so fantastic looking it almost makes you thing you are actually looking at a real monkey's face. The monkey orchid are in fact an extremely rare flower that is only found in the high elevations of Ecuador and Peru. How high you say? How about between three thousand to nearly seven thousand feet high. Originally these flowers where and still are known as 'Dracula Simia' which means 'little dragon monkey'. The name was given to these rare flowers back in 1978 because of the similar resemblance to who else, Dracula himself. There isn't too much information on these orchids but at least you know now that they do exist. The lesson should be fun and simple to tackle so that should make things even more exciting.
