How to Draw Raiden from Mortal Kombat
Hello everyone it is me again Dragon_Queen and I ‘m back with another awesome requested tutorial that will knock your socks off (or at least I hope it will 8P). In this first lesson I will be showing you how to draw Raiden from Mortal Kombat. Now I know that almost all of you are familiar with the Mortal Kombat game series as well as the two movies that were released more than ten years ago. Raiden is a Thunder God in all the Mortal Kombat games as well as a protector of Earthrealm. As we all know Raiden has a few distinguishable abilities that he is best known for. Since he is a Thunder God he holds the ability to fly, control lightning and teleport. Some hold speculation that Raiden is truly immortal to a point that he can really never be destroyed. And this question arises more than once in the video games as well as the movies. I think that Raiden can never be killed because he is in essence walking energy. His whole being and self is based on energy as we all are, but he is one of the few that has more power than any other immortal from Mortal Kombat. The story begins a long time ago when Earthrealm was still very young. Raiden was the chosen protector of the human race and when the rogue God Shinnok had a taste to go against his fellow Gods so that he can proceed on with his plans to destroy Earthrealm, Raiden is the one that fought him as well as beat him in the battle. Once he was defeated Shinnok was cast away into the Netherealm where he could be of no threat any longer and the amulet was hidden in a secret location. Raiden took four Gods to guard and protect the amulet and they were the Gods of Wind, Earth, Fire and Water. Now you all seen the first Mortal Kombat movie right? Good, because if you have than you already know that it is pretty much based on true facts from the games storyline. Many, many years later an evil sorcerer named Shang Tsung sent out invitations to skilled human fighters of the Earthrealm to his private island so that they can participate in a fighting tournament called “Mortal Kombat”. Now because Raiden already knew what Shang Tsung was planning, he changed himself into human form to aid the warriors of Earth so that they had a fighting chance to defeat Shang Tsung and his warriors of the Netherealm. In the movie Raiden was disguised as a humble beggar wearing an all white shroud and long white hair. His real appearance is what you see in the game series; he is dressed like a ninja wearing an all white outfit with some shades of blue and he also wears his signature coolie hat. He is also often seen with a quarterstaff which holds the power of thunder and lightning. I liked how the movie depicted Raiden because it added character to the video game version. Raiden’s abilities and powers include; Static teleport, Lightning bolt, Torpedo, and Shocking Touch. For his fatality moves he has; Electric Decapitation, Explosive Uppercut, Electrocution, and Staff Electrocution. Any move that Raiden has is freaking awesome no matter what. And like most of you he is also one of my favorite characters from the Mortal Kombat gaming series. This tutorial will show you how to draw Raiden from Mortal Kombat step by step. I hope you enjoy this one; I worked really hard on it. I of course used several reference pictures to get him looking right and I know you will have an electrifying blast when learning how to draw this Mortal Kombat character.

STEP 1.
Okay as always you will start this first step by drawing out the guidelines and shapes to make a frame for Raiden. Start by drawing a circle for the shape of his head and then add the facial guidelines. You will then draw out the lining of his jaw and then then the shape of his torso. Once that is complete you will add the limb guidelines for his arms, legs and hands.
STEP 2.
In this next step you will start drawing out the outlining of Raiden's body starting with his coolie hat and then his face. Once that is set you will work on getting his arms, hands, torso and legs drawn out in a more shapely fashion. Make sure that his pants has wrinkle lines to give him a more powerful effect.
STEP 3.
Now that you have completed steps one and two, you will begin working on step three as you see here. The first thing you are going to do is start sketching out his facial features starting with the eyes and then his nose and mouth. As you can see he has an aging face so you will also need to include the frown lines around his mouth. Start detailing his top part of his uniform by adding crease and wrinkle lines throughout. You will then give his belt some crease or layer lines and then add the scarf that hangs between his legs. Detail the rest of his left leg and then draw out the shape of his feet.
STEP 4.
You have now made it to step four and what you will do now is complete the shape of his coolie and begin sketching out the shape of his shoulders as well as the wrinkle and crease lines. You will then detail and define his left leg and both feet.
STEP 5.
You have now made it to your last drawing step and the only thing that is left to do is add some lining on his coolie hat and then his scarf and sandle. Erase all the guidelines that you drew in step one and proceed onto your finished sketch.
STEP 6.
Your character should come out looking like this when you are done. All that you need to do now is color him in and add some electrifying bolts in his hands. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to draw Raiden from Mortal Kombat step by step.Comments: Post Comment
