How to Draw Moro, Princess Mononoke

Doing this tutorial was a relief for me because I haven't drawn wolves in quite a while. If you're not familiar with 'Princess Mononoke', (like I am) it's a cartoon derived entirely from Studio Ghibli, a very popular studio. Studio Ghibli is like the Japanese version of Disney of anime cartoons. I had fun 'drawing Moro the Wolf Goddess' because she consistently has an angered snarl to her face. She is also the companion of San, who was raised by wolves (sort of like the Jungle Book). I will show you the basic break down on "how to draw Moro from Princess Mononoke", step by step. Take your time with this one since it's in a different pose than most of the wolves I've drawn (thanks to a reference). Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy; please let me know your thoughts on how you did and if this tutorial was easy enough! Peace out and enjoy!

STEP 1.

Since you will be drawing a wolf laying on a rock from the side, you will probably have an easy time recreating Moro. Start with the head guide which is just a simple circle.

STEP 2.

Next, sketch out Moro's snout which should be sort of longer than a normal wolf's snout. Draw a snarling mouth expression like you see here, and then draw the nose tip.

STEP 3.

Sketch out the rest of the head which also includes the bottom jaw. Make sure that the back of Moro's face is drawn using a jagged stroke. Draw in the large pointed ears, and then add the eye, color in the pupil. You will end this step by sketching in the crinkles, wrinkles, and creases along the snout, eyes, and around the mouth.

STEP 4.

Now that the head and face is all done, you can start sketching out the thick, fluffy neck. Sketch in the detailing for the hair or coat, then sketch in the detailing for inside of the ears.

STEP 5.

The next thing you will do is first draw the wavy line of rocky hill that Moro is resting on or trying to climb. Once that is done draw in more of the body and then the front legs. Be sure to draw the paws large enough to be for a wolf, and then draw in the toe nails.

STEP 6.

For the last drawing step all you have to do is sketch in the texture detailing for the rock. This will make it look real and it will also define the rock so folks know what they are looking at. Erase your mistakes if any, then you are done.

STEP 7.

Here is what your finished drawing of Moro looks like when you are all done. Now you can color her in to perfection.

easy, ghibli is Japanese and all good things come from Japan. End of Story. That and Disney movies are extremely cliche and boring and generic and most aren't that good and trashy and I don't know why they would put romance in a kids' movie like beaty and the beast and they can't even get their own story for things they just use all these fairy tales. But I like pirates of the carribean, some of 'em anyway...anyway I'm done with this rant. boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie
