When is the last time that I made a tutorial on a musical instrument? If I ask myself this question there is only one way for me to answer and that is by saying "a very long time". Today I will be teaching you guys "how to draw a cello", step by step. What is a cello you ask? Well, if you look at the image you can see that it looks like a very large violin and that is mainly because of the fact that the cello belongs to the violin family. To put things in a more specific understanding; cellos are bowed string instruments that have only four strings that are tuned in perfect fifths. If you are one of those people that play the cello, you are known or called a cellist which is sort of cool because just the word 'cellist' sounds pretty significant. The very design of the cello is extraordinary because it is such a big instrument that needs to be played by the cellist in a sitting position. The peg or endpin at the base of the cello is built to support the heavy weight and it does this by resting on the endpin when being played. Some famous cellist are Yo-Yo Ma, Julian Lloyd Webber, Antonio Stradivari, and Soo Bae are among some of the more popular cellist that are talked about. Antonio Stradivari was not only a cellist, he was also a cello maker, and his instruments today sell for millions of dollars. Anyways I hope you guys like this lesson on "how to draw a cello". I worked hard on it and despite how the cello looks in the painted image, it was sort of difficult to make this lesson look interesting to tackle. I know those of you that play the cello will appreciate the tutorial. That's it for me or for this lesson at least. I will return with more drawing fun so stay tuned in. Peace people and enjoy!

How to Draw a Cello

how to draw a cello step 1

STEP 1.

Begin your first step by making two shapes. The top shape is a circle, and the bottom shape sort of looks like an egg.

STEP 2.

You will now draw the scroll, peg box, and neck of the cello like you see here. The neck is also home to the fingerboard as well.

STEP 3.

Next, sketch out the entire body of the cello, and if I was to name the areas of the body I would point out that the top portion of the cello is called the upper bouts, and the dipped in area is called the C bouts. The design of the cello is very specific which is why they give a very specific sound.

STEP 4.

As you can see you will now move onto draw out the swirl like shapes which are called F holes. The middle bar between the F holes is called the bridge, and the piece that is below the bridge is called the tailpiece. At the very bottom of the tailpiece is the end pin or end stopper. Draw out all these components like so, and then sketch in detailing at the corners of each tip of the cello's design.

STEP 5.

Here you will sketch out the design of the scroll which is on the sides at the top of the cello. Next, draw in the tuning keys and then move to step six.

STEP 6.

For the last drawing step, all you have to do is sketch in the detailing to the peg box first, and then draw the four strings as well as the fine tuners at the base of each string. When that is done you can clean up any mistakes as well as the guides that you drew in step one and along the way.

STEP 7.

Now that you are done, you can color in your cello to complete the design. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did making it.
