STEP 1.
Start out by picking your pencils. I used a 4H pencil for light shading, an H pencil for general shading/lines, a B pencil for dark lines, and a 4B pencil for dark shading. I also used an 8B pencil for my dark shading but that's optional.
STEP 2.
Start out with a basic sketch. Use the guidelines if you need them.
STEP 3.
Your sketch should end up looking something like this. I used an H pencil to sketch and then went over my lines with a blending stump.
STEP 4.
Now start defining your sketch some more. Start with the eye and make your way outward.
STEP 5.
Now shade in the head feathers and then sketch in the beak.
STEP 6.
Shade in the beak then shade in the rest of the dark feathers.
STEP 7.
Lightly sketch in the lighter feathers. Keep the feather direction in mind when drawing in your lines.
STEP 8.
Now use a 4B pencil to roughly shade in your background then use a blending stump or paper towel to smooth out your shading.
STEP 9.
Start adding your final layers of shading by starting at the eye again. Use a 4B pencil to roughly shade in the eye then use a B pencil to define your dark lines and a blending stump to smooth out your shading. Use 3H and H pencils for the lighter details around the eye.
STEP 10.
darken the shading on the top part of the head a bit then use a blending stump to smooth it out. Start using 3H and H pencils to built up the head feathers. Try to work on your background as you move along. I use 4B and 8B pencils for my background and a blending stump.
STEP 11.
Continue working on the head feathers. use a blending stump to smooth out the beak shading in preparation of details. Continue developing your background.
STEP 12.
Define your beak using 3H and H pencils. Use a 3B pencil for the darker values/lines. As soon as you've finished up your beak shading roughly shade in the rest of the drawing with a 4B pencil.
STEP 13.
Now use a blending stump to smooth out your shading.
STEP 14.
Now shade in the rest of the feathers using H and 3H pencils. Finish up your drawing by smoothing out your background and and going over your feathers and details again. Let me know if you have any comments or questions!Comments: Post Comment
