How to Draw a Cockatoo
I think I might have said that I was going to be submitting more and more bird species since I am having a ton of fun drawing them out. Another reason why I want to draw more birds is because I’m actually trying to improve my drawing skill when it comes to these animals. Today I have a really nice lesson that is going to be on another popular bird species that I think most of you will recognize. Here I will show you "how to draw a cockatoo", step by step. These incredibly beautiful birds always catch my eye whenever I’m at a big pet store that sells birds. The last time I saw a cockatoo was two years ago. I was in Petco or Petsmart, and there was this amazingly white colored cockatoo there that had a beautiful crest. The bird that I'm drawing is what the too looked like when I last saw one. I swear it was the prettiest cockatoo I had ever seen. If I had my camera with me I would have taken a few pictures just to save them for future reference, and for my photo album. What I like about these birds is the fact that they act more like a pet than any other bird species out there. The girl that was in charge of the winged animal section of the pet store was telling me some interesting facts about the cockatoo. For instance she said that they love just hanging out with their owners, and they have incredibly expressive eyes. They are sweet birds that love attention, and they are also very amusing to watch at times. Now just because this may sound like the perfect breed of parrot to own, they are also one of the complicated birds to deal with. The cockatoo is sensitive when it comes to their diets, lack of attention and interaction, as well as being housed in cages that are way too small or confining for them. If you plan on owning one of these birds one day, you should really considered buying a book that is all about cockatoo’s and you should also ask questions from a breeder, vet, or associate that works in the proper area. One thing is certain; the cockatoo is definitely a bird that is purchased just for their looks and not for their overall companionship. You really have to be a parrot pro when owning a parrot such as the cockatoo. Other than that, this lesson came out awesome which means you should enjoy drawing a cockatoo as well. Hey, if you can’t afford to buy the bird now, why not draw one out instead. I hope you have fun, and I also hope you like this tutorial.

STEP 1.
Start by making a head shape and then a oblong cone shape for the birds body.
STEP 2.
You will tackle this step by sketching out the forehead, as well as the puffed up feathery crest. Also prepare the lining for around the beak of the bird.
STEP 3.
Using the notch that you sketched out in the previous step, draw in the clawed style beak like so, and then sketch in some feathers for the chest as well as for the back of the neck like so. :eave this step after you draw in the small round eye.
STEP 4.
Continue in to draw the birds body starting with the chest, and then draw the wing. Don't forget to add the feather detailing for the bottom of the wing.
STEP 5.
Sketch in more layers of fluffy feathers, and then draw the birds foot.
STEP 6.
For your last drawing step, all you have to do is sketch in more of the tail, and then draw the branch that the bird is sitting on. Notice that there is a small bloom of new leaves on the small branch near the foot. Sketch in the swirls for the detailing.
STEP 7.
Once you have cleaned up your mistakes and guides, you can get busy coloring in this cockatoo that you just drew. Hey, that rhymed.Comments: Post Comment
atoos :) Being from the Adelaide Hills a mive flock of atoos isn't a rare sight! Like you said in your description large parrots such as ys need sooooo much care and attention and shouldn't be bought as a "decoration". I have two male eclectus parrots who are similar in nature and care, and they are so demanding! Just like toddlers! I love them dearly :) This pic was fun to draw!
