How to Draw Sho, Shawn, The Secret World of Arrietty

1

Once again we will be tackling a tutorial on a character from Secret World of Arrietty. This is Shō, or Shawn. Begin with a circle for his head and then sketch in the facial guidelines.

2

Begin sketching out the lower half of his face which is the cheek, chin, and jaw bone structure. Include an ear and proceed to step three.

3

Shō has a very simple face which means you should have a rather easy time drawing it in. Begin by making the edgy lining to create his eyes like so. The lines should also be dark and thick. Sketch in his small nose before leaving this step.

4

Finish the eyes by drawing the actual eyeballs, and bottom lids. You will then draw the smiling mouth and add some detailing inside the ear.

5

Before you draw his big melon of a head, you will need to draw and color in his eyebrows. Once that is completed go ahead and draw the bangs which should be pointed and chunked. Continue to draw the rest of his hair which also shapes out his head. Ad

Now that we have taken care of his face and head, let's get the show on the road by finishing Shō. Sketch the shape of his neck, and then draw the collar which is nice and stiff looking. Notice how the shirt or neck line forms a V.

7

Draw the shoulders, and sketch in the detailing lines that will form his arms. Draw a button or two and then begin the clean up work as you erase the mistakes and guides.

8

Here is Shō or Shawn when you are all done. Grab your coloring tools because it's time to add some color to your newly drawn character.

Description: So I uploaded the lesson on Arrietty, which means it’s only right that I also make and submit a lesson on "how to draw Shō", step by step. Shō is the Japanese name for the twelve year old boy in the series, but for the English version it is Shawn. In the film and book, Shawn discovers Arrietty when he investigates the bush that a cat was seen ruffling in. He wanted to know what the heck the cat was doing so when he went over to the bush; he finds a little person named Arrietty. Arrietty and her kind are called or known as ‘Borrowers'. I wish I could tell you more about this secondary character but I can’t. I never read the book, nor did I even get to see the Japanese anime film which is based on Mary Norton’s novel. I can however teach you how to start drawing Sho or Shawn by using this exciting tutorial. I hope you find this lesson helpful and fun, because I really enjoyed making it. That is all I can really say so let me bust a move so I can get to work on something new. Adios mi amigos and enjoy!
