How to Draw a Pandaren, World of Warcraft, Pandaren

Step 1.

Start out by picking your pencils. I used an HB pencil for my sketching and most of my shading. A 2B pencil was used for dark shading/lines. I also used a 3H pencil for some of the details on the clothing/armor, it is optional though.

Step 2.

Start out with a basic sketch. Use the guidelines if you need them. I used an HB pencil to sketch. It doesn't matter what kind of pencil you use just as long as you sketch lightly.

Step 3.

Your sketch should look something like this. Erase away as many of the extra lines as you can.

Step 4.

Start defining your sketch some more using your sketching pencil. Start by defining the hat. My original reference pic didn't have a monk hat but I added it in just because I thought it would look cool.

Step 5.

Now sketch in the face a little more. You can add the little twig sticking out of his mouth as well.

Step 6.

Next up sketch his armor, clothing, and accessories. No need for details yet.

Step 7.

Roughly shade in the background using a 2B pencil.

Step 8.

Smooth out your shading using a blending stump.

Step 9.

Now start developing your shading in the same top down manner starting with the hat. I added a light layer of shading using a 2B pencil.

Step 10.

Now, start developing your shading with more layers use a combination of 2B and HB for fine lines. Make your way from top to bottom. Use a blending stump to smooth out your shading.

Step 11.

Finish the details of the hat. Hint at the shading of the hat's rim.

Step 12.

Use a 2B pencil again to add a layer of shading to the head. Keep the flow of the fur in mind when drawing your lines.

Step 13.

Now start adding final shading to the head from top to bottom. Rely on a 2B pencil for dark shading and HB for lighter shading.

Step 14.

Keep making your way around the head adding details here and there. Use a blending stump to smooth out any shading that seems too rough.

Step 15.

Finish up with the head/face by detailing the hair. Finish up the hat shading and develop the background a bit more.

Step 16.

Now it's time to start working on his apparel. Start out by roughly shading in the darker sections with a 2B pencil. Smooth out your shading with a blending stump.

Step 17.

Now use an eraser to roughly erase the patterns/details. This works best with a sharpened eraser.

Step 18.

Now, start systematically developing your details. Use a finely sharpened HB pencil to outline your patters and shade around them. Use a 3H pencil if you have trouble getting the tiny details with an HB pencil. Use a 2B pencil for any shading too dark for the HB to handle.

Step 19.

Finish up the details on the left side. Use a 2B pencil to start defining his necklace and ornaments. Worry more about the outlines for now.

Step 20.

Start making your way from left to right with the details. Rely mainly on HB and 3H pencils for details. Only use a 2B pencil for the darkest shading and shadows.

Step 21.

Continue making your way towards the right. Use the same technique as before to sketch/erase in the patterns and details on the right.

Step 22.

Shade in the rest of the drawing using the same pencils. Call your drawing done after you've cleaned up your background and gone over your details. I hope you all have fun with this tutorial! Let me know how it goes.
