The African Elephant is popular animal children get excited to see at the zoo. They are enormous dense powerful animals that everyone loves. These tutorials show you how to sketch one of these big beautiful animals with only a few steps. But here are some quick facts about the Elephant that you don’t know. Did you know that elephants reach puberty at the ages of thirteen and fourteen years old? They also have their offspring up until they are fifty, WOW! Elephants can also live a little over seventy years old. It can take an elephant between two and a half to three years before her calf is ready to be born. Did you also know that the elephant’s trunk has over 100,000 muscles? Elephants can also cry and play, they have incredible memories, and laugh too. The elephant is more like a human then most people realize, elephants actually grieve if they have a stillborn, lose a family member and most of them get emotional when other elephants die that have no relation. A big question folks ask is “Do elephants really drink with their trunks?” The answer is no, they use them as a tool to drink with. What they do is fill up the trunk with water and use it like a hose to gush the water into their mouths. Any way you look at it the Elephant is an incredible species that doesn’t get enough credit for who they are. Enjoy this tutorial and be creative when drawing the elephant. You can even draw her baby just make a smaller version.

How to Draw an Elephant

how to draw an elephant step 1

STEP 1.

So, here's a very important tip I want to introduce to you artists. Firstly, elephants require a lot of detailing in order to make it believable and accurate. 1. The trunk of an elephant is flexible and ALWAYS used, it's like having two hands morphed into a trunk for them. By adding wrinkles to the trunk, you'll make it seem believable! 2. The ears need definition in order for them to be nice and believable. Having a few rips and tears in the ears, will make them look aged and noble. 3. Add a few wrinkles to the ears that spread to the edges.

STEP 2.

Alright, onto the drawing aspect of the tutorial. You'll want to build a solid foundation for the basis of the elephant. Draw a large circle for the base of the head and an even larger circle for the rear. This will only make things easier to draw in the end.

STEP 3.

Next lets start forming the elephants trunk, and ears. All the shapes are just simple lines. It's coming along nicely.

STEP 4.

As you can see in a matter of a few steps the elephant is practically done. All we need to do here is add the base of the tusk, the long legs, and extra details. Elephant legs are really long and skinny; the more it extends downwards to the feet, the slimmer they appear. The feet for elephants should be drawn almost box like, similar to the dinosaur, Brontosaurus.

STEP 5.

Lastly, add finishing details that will spruce up the overall design of your elephant! Adding wrinkles in the ears, end of joints (knees), and trunk, the design will result in epic proportions! *Note: Only add wrinkles in areas where there's lots of activity (legs, ears, trunk). When viewing the feet from a 3/4 view, there should be 3 toes seen. Don't forget to add the tusk! Tusks *for male elephants*, are larger for battling over territory and females. The longer they are, the more dominant it will seem!

STEP 6.

And there we have it! Eraser unwanted guidelines and you'll have a clean drawing. If you're not satisfied with your first try, retry the tutorial until you get it right! Thanks so much for viewing this tutorial, folks!

yeah. Back to school on my end. Week 3 already. Thats why I havent been on. =( I dont get it. dawn deleted roxy, and she deleted artlover. Shes ruining the site. I feel a bit glum when I get on here. All of the best people here are disappearing. One day this website might fall, its reputation failing. Conflicts are popping up every where. Theres copycats and art theifs that think they can get away with it. Im sick of it. All I ask is a bit of peace. T_T *peace sign with fingers* Sorry you have to listen to my complaints. I cant get over these stupid deletions. People that I really like but only touch with the very tip of my fingers.People that are easy to lose, are usally lost because of the conflicts that ive noticed.
