How to Draw Royce Gracie, Royce Gracie

1

Let's begin drawing the guidelines to start off with any tutorial. Everything needs a basis frame in order to start molding within it. Make sure you sketch the guidelines that will proportion the face correctly.

2

Then, because Royce has a structured face, we'll draw varied inclines around the face. This step is very important, and notice how the lines work around the guidelines.

3

Then, working slowly with the steps, we'll start sketching the facials for Royce. Royce's eyes are slanted at the ends, which is part of the trademark of his look. Royce's nose is also very narrow.

4

The pupils for Royce are solid black, like that of an Asian. The brows should be dispersed in the correct areas in order to make this figure look like Gracie. Sketch the lips, staying in a similar form of the surrounding face shape.

5

Next, we'll sketch the form of the hair, and the light strokes which taper into the hairline.

6

Now, as you can see the advantage we have of drawn a correctly proportioned head, and neck. We can evenly sketch the neck as well as the collar of his robe. Use thin line weights for inner detailing.

7

Lastly, we'll sketch the fist, knuckle by knuckle. I ALWAYS start with the index knuckle and work my way down like a tree. After the knuckles are drawn, finish by drawing the thumb and palm.

8

With further tweaks and proof checking your drawing, you should have something similar to these lines. If you wish to challenge yourself, color your drawing or ink out the lines like shown above. If you prefer digitally coloring your art, use the tec

Alright, I'm going to bluntly say, if you have a digital program, and you've used this tutorial; make sure you ink out your finished drawing using a reliable digital program like Photoshop. You'll want to fill the entire inside of the drawing with a

Next, I take a 50% opacity brush, and work in mid-tone shadows first, NEVER the darkest shadows! I like to paint the skin first, before I move onto the hair and clothes. Brush in the semi-dark spots of the face, keeping an eye on your reference to ma

Next, following along my lines (which are currently my guides for the future paints), I'm going to get a darker shadow to paint in the darker parts of the face. What I'm doing is, gradually using darker tones that will mesh with one another, creating

Then, I proceed using the steps previously shown, to color in the rest of his face. The lips in this step seem strange, but I fixed those later on. Remember to use your highlights sparingly. DO NOT overdo highlights, as they can have a garnish - inac

Next, I color picked the hair color for Royce, which I now applied to the brows, also defining them a lot more with thin - careful painted strokes. The eyes are nearly the same color tone as the hair and brows, with sparse highlights.

Lastly, I define my painting more, color in his robe roughly, and define the paints on his face a bit better. Once my painting is complete, I duplicate this layer, set it onto my main paints layer, overlay it, and then tweak the background/foreground

Description: I received word that folks would like to see more tutorials on some pretty amazing UFC fighters that I don’t obviously have yet. Now because Christmas is in like five days, I wanted to draw something for my dad that he would really enjoy. He is a big time UFC fan and one of his all-time favorite fighters is Royce Gracie. I can remember him telling my brother the stories on how skilled Royce Gracie is as a fighter. When I was a kid my family lived a few towns over from the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu dojo and it was there that I saw my first practice session. Of course I don’t remember the details, but I do remember being mesmerized with the way that the instructors and students moved. Today I will be showing you guys "how to draw Royce Gracie", step by step. Like much of my portrait work, the sketch of Mr. Gracie was done by using a reference photograph I found online, and since there weren’t a whole lot of decent images of Royce that I liked, I went ahead and used the one where he is in an action style pose. Enough with the jibber jabber, let’s talk about this fighter. Royce Gracie was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Helio Gracie on December 12, 1966. He grew up with five brothers, and a whole bunch of relatives. He and a majority of the Gracie family are expert fighters in the art of Jiu-Jitsu, but his father and brother Carlos, are said to be the original originators of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu fighting style. Besides the skill in Jiu-Jitsu, Royce is also a skilled mixed martial artist. The weird thing about Royce Gracie is how I always thought he was this little guy that took on big men. The way that people in my family described how he fought, and what his opponents looked like almost made it seem like he was this 5’7 Brazilian fighter that weighed ninety pounds soaking wet. Come to find out Royce Gracie is a big guy that seems much smaller than he is because he is taking on bigger dudes than he should. He weighs in at 178 pounds and is six feet one inch tall. That translates to be a tall, slender but toned fighter that is flexible and agile. One of the main reasons why Gracie became so popular in the MMA world is because of the way he would take down other fighters that where stronger, and bigger than he was. I can remember when my father tried to explain to me how Gracie fought. All he could say is that he was like a monkey tackling a gorilla; he would wrap around your body with his long limbs and just squeeze and maneuver until he took you down. He won a total of three UFC championships which are one, two, and four. Royce Gracie also fought Ken Shamrock, which is another good fighter, to the draw during UFC five. Because his style of fighting is so unique, the art of Jiu-Jitsu has become a sought after martial arts skill that is commonly used today. Till this day I hear the talks of Royce Gracie and how he is one of the best fighters of the UFC. I hope you enjoy this lesson folks, and I also hope you enjoy the painting tutorial I included within the steps. Have fun and don’t forget to rate, comment, and fav.
