I've retrieved an idea originated from my mom, who suggested that I do a tutorial showing you all “how to draw hoodies”, step by step. I've been drawing characters with diverse types of clothing on them for some time. In this tut, I'll guide you from tips to actual steps to draw the guy in this gothy, tapered hoodie. Even though something like this sounds so simple, it can be tedious work to get it drawn right. Ready yourself with a pencil, paper and eraser to blast off into this drawing tutorial. There's a few tips I've presented, to aid your process of learning to “draw hoodies” easier, and gradually with time, you'll be able to design your own hoodie from scratch. Anyways, I hope y'all will splurge on this lesson. Thanks a lot for viewing, and don't forget to inform me how you did and post the link to your drawing here at Drago. Peace out and good luck!

How to Draw a Hoodie, Draw Hoodies

how to draw a hoodie, draw hoodies step 1

STEP 1.

Now, here are the BASIC types of hoodies seen in public. You have: 1) a typical sweater that has no separation in the middle. These are classic hoodies which are intended to keep you warm. They can be drawn at a variety of thicknesses, depending on your character fashion styles, or body shape. 2) Are sweaters that intersect in the middle, enabling an easier removal. These hoodies are seen endorsed with lots of designs. 3) Is an eccentric hoodie which is of 'jean' material. Nothing to fancy, just simple.

STEP 2.

Now, here's a helpful tip that will aid in drawing appropriate hoodie styles. 1) The collar of this sweater wraps around the ENTIRE neck, with an exception of space in the middle. It is drawn that way due to the thinness of the middle. 2) Hoodies normally have more volume than regular t-shirts. Though, a jacket or coat has more volume than this. 3) A typical hoodie has an outward punch at the bottom, which is a one-way pocket. I remember joy riding in school with lots of stash in my pockets.

STEP 3.

Here are various body shapes and how they would mend with a hoodie. Notice how the fabric clasps to the form of each diverse body shape? You've got to keep this in mind; how the wrinkles form whenever there is active pressure on an area.

STEP 4.

Okay, the first step is just going to be your basic lines and shapes that will end up being your frame work for your hoodie model. To get started, make a simple circle, and then lightly sketch in your facial guidelines. Next and lastly, draw the guides for the torso.

STEP 5.

Using the circle you drew in step one, begin sketching out the model's beanie style hat. Notice the lining of the hat is drawn using wavy strokes. Next, draw the hair strand chunks and sketch in the shape of the face. If you want your model to have that grungy look as I did here, go ahead and draw in a goatee style beard.

STEP 6.

Draw the band detailing around the head like so, and then yo will begin sketching out the face starting with the eyes, and then the eyeglasses. Draw the nose and then the mouth. Add some facial detailing for expression and you are ready to move along to step seven.

STEP 7.

I drew my model wearing headphones for a cooler, shilled out look. Your next step is to draw the headphones by making the muffs, and the band. Add some detailing to the headphones as well as his neck.

STEP 8.

Using the tips you received using the first three steps of this tutorial, begin sketching out the actual hoodie. Start at the shoulders, and draw the wavy pattern for the hood, and then draw the overlapped material from the hood that rests on the shoulders of the sweater. Draw the length of the hoodie, and then move to the next step to see what else we have to tackle and complete.

STEP 9.

We will be working on getting the detailing drawn on the sweater or hoodie. Lets start by sketching out the drawstrings that enable the wearer to tie or tighten the hoodie around the head. Next, draw the zipper lining and then sketch in the shirt collar and ends.

STEP 10.

For the last drawing step you will simply sketch out the shape of the upper body or torso by drawing the curves of the waist, arms, and hips. Lightly detail the sweater by adding the wrinkles, folds and creases along the edges of the arm, and along the bottom of the shirt. If you want your model to wear a character tee, simply draw in a design on the front of the shirt as I did here with the X'd out face. Clean up the sketch by freeing it from mistakes and guides.

STEP 11.

Once you have taken in all that good knowledge, your drawing should end up looking like the one you see here. You can add your own personal tweaks and effects if you like, and you can also make your model a girl instead of a boy just by simply adding here and taking away there.
