This next tutorial is going to be very cool. I will be showing you how to draw a black rose step by step. I already submitted a tutorial on a rose but I thought it would be cool drawing a much better and more detailed rose. This flower whether black, red, yellow, pink or white, really gained recognition in the Victorian era when folks decided to put meanings behind flowers, almost like a type of communication method. Roses became the most popular flower to convey emotions and the black rose was never a “thought of” type of flower. In reality there is no such thing as a “jet black” rose. Instead the black rose flower is more deep red than black, so because of that we have labeled this color rose black. The color black has always symbolized death, darkness and mourning. So back in the Victorian era the color black was a reflection of sadness and farewell. And because of that, the black rose was used as a way to express bereavement, loss and mortality. But the meaning of death is not always a bad thing. You see some believe that the black rose also sometimes signifies the start of something new. Almost like the “out with the bad, in with the new” type mentality. I love roses and if you are Gothic “you” love them too. Another cool fact about the rose is that it is the most commonly used piece of art that people use to place on their bodies as a tattoo. So because of that I will be placing this black rose under the tattoo category. This tutorial is a good way to learn how to draw a black rose step by step. I didn't color the flower black because in all reality they are not black at all they are deep red. The instructions are easy to read and the steps are simple follow. I hope you enjoy this drawing lesson, I will be back in a bit with my last two tutorials in a bit.

how to draw a cheetah
how to draw a black rose step 1

STEP 1.

Start this first step by drawing the bud first with a big circle shape. Then from that shape add the stem guideline along with the leaf branches.

how to draw a black rose step 2

STEP 2.

Now in this step you will start drawing the pedals of the rose starting from the inside. You will make loop like lines in the middle and then draw the outer lining as shown. Add the lining to shape out and draw the bud bed that the rose sits in and then begin thickening the stem and leaf branches as shown.

STEP 3.

In this thirst step you will start to draw more of the "loop pedal lines" to form a nice shape and structure to the flower. Start drawing out the shape of the rose leaves and then move onto the next step.

how to draw a black rose step 4

STEP 4.

You have now reached the last drawing step of this tutorial lesson. So far it isn't that bad right? You will finish off the pedal lining as shown and then start adding detail and definition to the leaves by adding dash like lines. You can now start erasing all the guidelines and shapes that you drew in step one.

STEP 5.

This is what your finished rose should look like when you are done. Add some shading and then that is it. Color in your finished work and you have just completed this tutorial on how to draw a black rose.

@Dawn
This is directed at mage art, I would of clicked reply but my the computer I'm on doesn't let me: It's got some cartoonish qualities like the beak because it's rounded but that was so she didn't look too scary because when you draw griffons with pointed and angular features that reflects a sinister character. The more cartoonish a character looks the more gentle it looks. Compare this to my minator (however you spell the god speechless thing) and note how sinister and un-cartoonish he looks. Did you mean that in a good way or a bad way? and I apologise for how long I make my comments lol
