Okay DragoArt members, this is going to be a tutorial on a character from a movie that was released last year. It is an anime film that I enjoyed very much, so having said that, today you will learn to draw Paprika. Now for those of you who haven’t seen this movie yet let me share some information with you. First off what you should know is that Paprika is a Japanese animated science fiction film originally based on the book written by Yasutaka Tsutsui back in 1993. The story is about a young woman who happens to be a research psychologist in the near future. Now, the doctor’s name is Atsuko Chiba and she uses a revolutionary device on her patience called the DC Mini. The treatment is called PT and it is a relatively new form of treatment which enables doctors to enter the minds of their patients while they are in their dream state. Once they are in an individuals mind they are able to explore their unconscious thoughts to resolve problems they may be having, to me it is like another form of hypnotism. The head doctor that leads the team with this new invention happens to be Dr. Chiba and she starts using the device illegally to help patients in the psychiatric ward. When she is in other people’s minds she is no longer Dr. Atsuko Chiba, her alter ego Paprika takes over and manifest into different types of capabilities while she is in her patients mind. In the beginning of the movie it starts off with Detective Konakawa Toshimi being consoled by Paprika. His problem consist of a disturbing dream that is repeated every time he sleeps causing him anxiety to a point where it makes it almost impossible for him to function normally. Now since these types of visits are not approved, Dr. Chiba and her team must be extra careful and keep things tight lipped so no evidence of them using the DC Mini leaks out. Unfortunately someone steals a prototype and they must recover the device before all harm bestows on humanity. I am not going to tell you the whole movie because this is one of those flicks that not a lot of people have seen. So for now all I can tell you that it is a wicked cool movie with awesome animated special effects. This tutorial will show you how to draw Paprika step by step. You will have fun because I did. So grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the tutorial.Step 1.
In this first step you will draw out the guidelines and shapes to form a bodied frame. Start by drawing out the shape of her head and sketch in facial guidelines. Then draw the shape of her shoulders and lower part of her body around the hips. From those shapes draw out the guidelines as shown here and move down to the next step.
Step 2.
Now here you will start sketching out her face and drawing out the shape of her hair. Start by drawing out her eyes, nose, and mouth. Next draw out the lining to shape out the body of her hair as you can see here. Next shape the top part of her body which is her chest and detail the shirt with some wrinkles. Now draw out the shape of her right arm and hand and sketch out the belt. Now detail parts of her pants where the marks are red.
Step 3.
You will be working on the lower portion of her body in this step to shape and form her legs and detail her pants. After you do this detail the definition on her sneakers as you can see here in this step.
Step 4.
Finish off this last step by drawing out the rest of the shape of her left leg and detail her shirt by giving her some sleeves. Detail Paprika's face a bit more and erase all the guidelines and shapes you drew in step one.
Step 5.
This is what your Paprika should look like when you are completely done. Color her in and you will be done totally. That will do it for this tutorial on how to draw Paprika see you all next time.
