Description:
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is a very beautiful species from the Trochilida family. There are very few birds that I find eye appealing because a lot of them look dirty. In my personal opinion, the smaller the bird, the more delicate and colorful they are. The ruby-throated hummingbird is identifiable by the color of their throat and the feathers on their back which are always an iridescent green. This bird is also very small, only 3-4 inches long and weighs from 2-6 grams. WOW, now that is small. The ruby-throat is the only species of hummingbird that actually breeds in North America. Not all of these birds have a ruby colored throat though; it is only the males that have the colorful addition added to their color scheme, the females are left looking like males, they even weigh more, and the males look like females, weird huh. Just like many animals of the world, it is a very common thing seen, males having more added character in their body types that make them look more feminine, and the females have more masculine dull qualities to their build. The female ruby-throat makes their tiny little nest out of spider webs and plant particles, and when the baby birds are ready to leave the nest their considered full grown adults. The ruby-throat hummingbird almost sounds like someone humming in your ear when in flight, and they also have a soft rapid squeaking chirp as well. Wanna read something cool, their wings actually flutter 80 times a second, and can fly 25 miles an hour, now that’s impressive. I think that this tutorial is a fun way to use your imagination when it comes to coloring your sketch because you can make this bird any color of the rainbow you want, just as long you give it a shade of green on the back. You will learn to draw a ruby-throated hummingbird step by step. And with the easy to read instructions, you will be drawing birds all day long like a pro. Okay that’s enough from me, now you get to work and have fun!

Lets start off this sketch with some easy guidelines. Draw a total of three circles, the smallest one is for the head, the middle one is for the body, and the last one is to help you form and shape the tail. After drawing all the shapes, draw two lines that come down like a dress, this is going to be the wings. And finally for this step, Draw a straight line coming from the face for the long beak.

Now you can see that this step will make the bird take more shape. Starting at the tip of the beak line from underneath, sketch the bottom out but not to thick just enough to tell it is a beak and not just a line. Then make sure you fluff up the lining toward the end of the sketch. Next draw two shapes for the wings. The wing to far right is larger then then the wing closest to you. These can be drawn very easily just by sketching out big long shaped upside down "U"s. Move down to the tail end and individually sketch out the feathers going on and angle to the left. And lastly draw the eye with a small circle.

This step is easy, what you will do now is sketch the feather lining onto the wing frames that you drew in the previous step. take your time and do a good job. If you rush then you will not get a good solid looking feather. After you do this sketch in the top half of the humming birds beak with just a slight thickness the closer it gets to the face. Detail some of the feather definition on the tail as well before you jump to the next step.

Here is a short step for me to right about because you will be doing all of the work. What you need to make sure you do here is take your time. Be as detailed as possible when it comes to adding definition to the small feathers that go up and down the back and head of the ruby-throated hummingbird. Sketch them out one by one until you think they look good. When you are done your sketched out body feathers should look similar to these.

Real simple fluff up the birds body in this step with very light pencil strokes. After you are done erase all the sketch marks and guidelines so you can prepare the sketch for coloring.

Congratulations you did it. You drew your very own ruby-throated hummingbird. All you have to do now is color it.Comments Don't be shy. Tell us what you think. |
